ON AND OFF THE COURT
Putting in effort on and off the court pays off.
Potenza Sports began sending trainers to Chaska, Minn. this past school year to train the South West Christian (SWC) Boys Basketball team throughout the season.
Tyler Krommendyk, a 2025 shooting guard and small forward for the Stars, was one of the athletes that benefitted from the outside training.
"I saw myself getting stronger than I was before. We were always pushing to be stronger," Krommendyk said about the training sessions.
He attributed to his new found strength to Potenza's leg training and weight lifting sessions.
"I wasn't able to dunk before. And did it during a game, not just practice. Something definetly clicked during weight training," Krommendyk said about his new skill.
This new level of intensity was new for the Stars. New trainers, new team and a new caoch gave the players a feeling that this season would be different. Krommendyk felt as though they were able to take down opponents in a new and stronger way.
"One of the games before sections we played Blake. We were not supposed to win by that much," Krommendyk said on the team's 79-54 win over the Blake Bears, on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024.
The SWC Stars completed the 2024 season with a 18-8 record. Earning them a 4th seed ranking in the MSHSL section 5AA bracket. Krommendyk only sees the winning record growing next season.
"I think we can go far and we are just hoping it turns our that way," Krommendyk said.
The incoming senior has high hopes for his final season with the Stars. But, continues to feel as though his team will continue to grow in strength and style on and off the court.
"I think the younger class is pretty invested in this kind of training," Krommendyk said. "We have basketball every single day and they still show up to weight training after. So, I feel like our team is dedicated to a good season."
