EDUCATION HYDRATION
Hydrated through the winter -
Keep it going through the summer!
Late last year, Potenza Sports partnered with GATORADE and HyperCharge Clinic to share ‘Education Hydration Day’ with the Maple Grove High School winter athletes.
Education Hydration is all about educating young athletes on proper hydration before, during and after their activities or workouts. This was the sixth year that Potenza brought this activation to Maple Grove.
Surprisingly, the student athletes had a lot of questions regarding proper hydration. Such as: what are electrolytes and why hydrate?
Electrolytes care a combination of sugar, carbs, and minerals that can help maintain your muscles water retention while exerting energy. Student athletes, like the ones we met at Maple Grove, should be drinking water or electrolytes every 20-30 minutes during training. As well as maintaining a healthy balance of water to electrolytes through the day.
The goal of Education Hydration is to help these athletes understand the importance of hydrating on and off the field. And for the past six years, Potenza has been partnering with Gatorade to show them how.
During the event, Gatorade shared their ‘Recover’ line with the athletes. They were able to try out some of the various Protein Shake and Protein Bar flavors. Each shake and bar hold 20 grams of casein, whey and milk proteins to help rebuild muscles.
Potenza has been able to enlist many Minnesota athletic legends to assist in this event. In recent years Boye Mafe, Potenza Alumn and current Seattle Seahawks Linebacker, and Carl Eller, Minnesota Vikings Legend and Pro-Football Hall of Famer, have come to share their experiences with the student athletes. This year, Autry Beamon, came out to share his thoughts on proper hydration and recovery.
Beamon was a 1975 Minnesota Vikings draft pick and was on the team during the final years of the “Purple People Eaters” domination. He was able to share his story about being a part of the NFL for seven seasons, and helped the students understand the importance of staying healthy while competing and after they choose to be done.
HyperCharge Clinic, located in Maple Grove, Minn., helped the student understand the importance of recovering after their activities. At HyperCharge, athletes can undergo Class IV Laser and Red Light Therapy treatments to help in their muscle and nerve recovery process. Some athletes were able to try out their laser treatment, while others were able to win various prizes.
Potenza hopes to bring ‘Education Hydration Day’ to more school across the Minneapolis-metro area and throughout the state with the upcoming school year.
